NASA Astronaut Visits FSC
NASA Astronaut Shane Kimbrough visited DeKalb County School System’s Fernbank Science Center during a trip to Atlanta, June 25, 2009. While visiting, Kimbrough visited with the Lockheed Summer Aviation Camp students and later that evening spoke to the public in Fernbank's Jim Cherry Memorial Planetarium.

Astronaut Kimbrough graduated from the Lovett School, Atlanta, Georgia, in 1985 and received a bachelor of science degree in Aerospace Engineering from the United States Military Academy, West Point, New York, in 1989. He also earned a master of science degree in Operations Research from the Georgia Institute of Technology in 1998. Kimbrough knew that he wanted to be an astronaut from the age of seven. His dream was finally realized on November 14, 2008, at 7:55 p.m. at Kennedy Space Center as space shuttle mission STS-126 rose from the launch pad and flew to the International Space Station.
Kimbrough shared many details of the preparation for a mission, as well as pictures and videos from the launch and while on board the International Space Station. After the presentation Kimbrough generously met with students, parents and teachers to sign photographs and pose for pictures.
