Field Marks
  • Tail and underwings are entirely yellow below 
  • Retricies and primaries have yellow shafts
  • Red crescent on nape
  • Gray cap
  • Tan face, chin, and throat
  • Adult male has black mustache

Habitat

Northern Flickers are found in wooded areas that have stands of dead trees. These woodpeckers are also found in open areas, forest edges, clear-cut areas, agricultural lands and residential areas

Status

The Northern Flicker is a common permanent resident in the Atlanta area.
