The White-breasted Nuthatch prefers woodland deciduous forests, but can also be found in mixed deciduous and coniferous forests. It is most often found on woodland edges, where it can easily get to open areas from its nesting site.  They walk up, down, and around tree trunks searching for insects on the bark.
