Michael Dowling has been teaching physics at Fernbank Science Center for 10 years. He teaches for Fernbank’s STT program for 9th graders, AP Physics and a variety of outreach programs in physics and physical science for all of our DeKalb County School System high schools.
Originally from Colorado, Michael received an AB in Physics from Harvard University and an MS in Physics from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, where he did research in the Laboratory for Fluorescence Dynamics. Prior to his teaching career, Michael worked as a Research Engineer at the Georgia Institute of Technology in the Woodruff School of Mechanical Engineering, where he designed and built experiments related to heat transfer, vapor (steam) explosions, and high heat flux cooling phenomena.
Michael coordinates DeKalb County’s Elementary Science Olympiad Tournament each spring for students in grades 3-5. If you would like your elementary school to host a team, please contact him to get involved!
