Students in grades 3-5 across DeKalb County are now preparing for the 2024 DeKalb Elementary Science Olympiad (DESO 2024). Teams are building catapults, pasta cars, and water rockets. They are estimating masses and measuring volumes. They are observing birds and practicing a few calls. (Who cooks for youuuu??) They are collecting leaves, pinecones, and nuts to figure out what that tree is over there. In short, they are having a great time!
The Olympiad begins with a parade, and winners get medals. Our tournament is a Regional Qualifier – top teams will advance to STATE! DeKalb County has an outstanding group of Science Olympiad teams and one of the largest programs in the state.

PARTICIPATION and REGISTRATION:
This event is open to elementary students attending school in DeKalb County, GA. All students must participate as a member of a team, typically school-based. Registration is required for all teams. Our formal registration period has ended. To inquire about possible openings for new teams, please contact the Olympiad organizer directly using the contact information at the bottom of the page.
EVENTS:
We offer 27 events for 2024. (Same events and rules as last year.) Some events feature “Georgia Special” rules that deviate from those in the official printed manual. Use only the events descriptions provided to your school’s Head Coach in our 2024 Event Packet.
